The other 2 times, when I took off the tail shaft housing the little metal retaining clip was laying at the bottom, twisted and the gear had slid on the shaft. My cable spins freely and the driven gear looks fine, except the first time where I found both gears stripped.

The problem being is that the 700 has a longer tailshaft than the 350. So to put a 700 where a 350 was, you will need the spacer that goes between the trans and transfer case. Should be an easy find at any salvage yard.

All you have to do is make up a spacer (it is fairly thick) to put between the TH350 case and the 700R4 tail shaft housing to properly locate the the C beam mounting holes.
